Here's how you can help immediately: make a 2-minute phone call to your MP today and ask them how they're ensuring that we don't have another salmon collapse this year. Tell them that you want all five salmon farms around Quadra Island removed immediately to protect out-migrating smolts.
Some other ideas for what to say:
- Farmed salmon must not trump BC's wild salmon.
- In light of the projected reports of low returns for 2010, government and industry MUST keep the out-migrating routes free from contaminating parasites and disease. That means getting rid of salmon farms on critical routes.
- We must not repeat the disaster of the Atlantic cod fisheries here on the west coast

Join in solidarity with Salmon Talks Lillooet, a coalition of local St'at'imc and non-Native citizens, biologists, and others. Salmon Talks will be "visiting" their Lillooet DFO offices at 10am on Wednesday, April 7 to demand that three of the five farms in the Narrows -- Venture Point, Sonora and Cyrus Rocks -- be immediately harvested of their salmon to protect wild salmon smolts that are already en route. Salmon Talks is asking for citizens to contact their regional DFO with this demand on April 7.
